(Hated the movie, of course, but love the clothes …) The ebay link has a photo of the film, and several photos of the dress itself. It is gray silk (which of course will not be used) and apparently has a print "Old Lace" at the upper layer. The neckline is square and has straps to keep it up. Any ideas on how? I sewed a little, but I've never tried to make my own pattern. Any advice on how to go about this? I love ideas by the type of tissue (especially how to get that look antique lace) and the construction of patterns.
It seems Ye Olde dress that variation pear … There are some patterns available that have been "modernized" with the current figures, so there are a couple of possibilities. One is to compensate for Kwik Sew 2498, view C, and lengthen. http://www.kwiksew.com/Catalog/PDF/2498.pdf That might be the best choice for a beginner, as it will good directions to sew. Make it plain cotton muslin (about $ 2/yd, and you need twice the length of your armpit hem laid, plus 1 / 4 yards). Then when you get it set the way you want, draw on the panels "dress is … each a different fabric or treatment becomes its own panel. * Draw hash marks across the lines you drew, and cut each panel. (The hash marks become "something that I notches" in their pattern of finish.) Then add the seam allowance along each cutting edge – the conventional way, 5 / 8 ". Trace your panels in good material, including the grooves, and then sew it all together. The other wing is completely …. As your hips and bust and add 4 "to the hips if your hips are bigger than your bust, and add 2" tailored to the chest if your bust is bigger than your hips. Sew a tube of fabric that is their size, easily measured + (2 or 4, as above). Then add the straps over the shoulders. Ask a friend to help draw in the side seams and do some assembly of the seams so the dress has some way to him. Then do the same thing drawing in the previous panels. The first method is a better option if you do not grow breasts, like the silhouette trap was very young and flat … and I assuming you do not want to bind their breasts to get the correct shape. If you have a perfect figure of 1920, you can probably handle the second method. * I made a quick tutorial to divide a piece of the pattern on the panels, the addition of the slots and the seam allowance for you: It seems that http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/21214738 a fun project. Are you doing the shrug, too? As for the material, has to be something with a little weight … I'm guessing the original was probably 4 layers of a heavy silk or charmeuse. You could use a fairly heavy cotton (weight men's shirt or heavier), or a rayon or tencel to light pantsweight good advantage here if you do not want to jump to silk. Some cords are not very expensive, especially some of the machine-made lace Cluny – which could be dyed to match the main garment. You can also use thin or thick rope braid or thread "read" the fabric to make their own designs of lace … I suggest Encyclopedia Nancy Bednar Sewing Machine Techniques or Jane Conlin Fine of decoration techniques for instruction in sleeping. Add a few beads and sparklies and then cut the fabric ornamented. Another interesting option in your case, especially for printing, would get extra yards and cut sections about 2x as long and wide as the sections into place. Hand wind a little elastic thread into a coil and set the machine to straight stitch. Padding Instructions for "quilting stipple" and sew a mottled pattern on your fabric. Give it a good blast with the steam iron and see the elaborate fabric textures in one piece with the tones with the original lyrics, but also much of the texture. Then cut your piece of wrinkled fabric pattern.
